The CP-009 stands out for its unique properties. It can park up to two bicycles per rack, and its design is both attractive and functional. Composed of two materials - an aluminum body and a rubber surface to protect bikes from scratches - the bike rack is a testament to BKT - Design's commitment to creating products that add value to society.
The realization of this design was not without its challenges. The product was designed to adapt to an urban setting, exposed to both the natural environment and potential abuse. Fusing the recycled aluminum body and the rubber into the same geometry was a complex task. The slender shape includes an internal metal structure to withstand vandalism and damage, with an optional polyester powder coating finish.
The CP-009 is a product of meticulous research and passion for urban cycling and industrial design. Designed in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, the bike rack is a result of an evolving cycling movement that has been taking place for more than fifteen years. The team's analysis of cycling infrastructure in the city and its use led to the creation of this innovative design.
Despite the creative and technical challenges, the team managed to create a bike rack with a smooth surface to prevent friction between it and the bicycle during their interaction. Ensuring its slender form was impact-resistant was another significant challenge, but the team was successful in providing a product with a long useful life.
The CP-009 has received prestigious recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded Platinum in A' Street and City Furniture Design Award in 2019, a testament to its world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design that showcases unmatched professionalism and contributes to societal wellbeing.
